Spontaneous Washington DC Trip.

Dane called me on his way home on Friday and informed me that he had taken time off of work and was wondering what we were still doing here. He suggested we get away for the weekend. We literally left 2 hours after the first discussion as to where to go. We gave no thought to travel plans, reservations or time of year. Thomas and Kaylyn begged to go to Washington DC. I wanted the coast and Tyler and Katie didn't want to go anywhere. So we headed for DC, The Nation's capital, on Memorial Day weekend. Not thinking......It was the busiest time of year up there second only to the Fourth of July. We were blessed with a room to sleep us all, Metro passes, positive attitudes and beautiful weather. Here are some of the sights we saw.

After the first Metro Stop you enter the National Mall. One side is the Washington Monument and the other the Capital Building. Just amazing to see.

This is inside the Smithsonian of Natural History. Our favorite museum.
The jewels! Oh, so amazing and I loved watching Kaylyn snap photos of her own.
The White House. So very far away from the people. Last time we were at the gate. This time, 6 years later we were pushed back at least half a mile. Crazy.
Here's the National Stadium. We attended the game. Standing room only but sure a lot of fun.
 Escalators! Everywhere.

This is a September 11 Memorial at the Pentagon. Very beautiful. Especially around Memorial Day.
The Jefferson Memorial. Much more beautiful from a far. It's such a hike to get to that by the time we were there we just sat.
While sitting on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial this was our view.
Metro. The amazing Metro. Love it for so many reasons. Kaylyn was the master of the Metro for us.
Far and away the best monument in DC is the one dedicated unto the Lord. Each time I see it in the midst of the city it brings peace to my soul. Truly a House of the Lord.
